in orange NEWS... I have ISSUES!

hey hey, chickens!  happy Sunday, and happy March, and let's hope it's out like a lamb because i'm totally over winter.

today, i've got some ISSUES to share!  i am so excited and ridiculously happy to announce that i have returned to the Creative Team at Paper Issues!

some of you know that 2014 ended roughly for me, and 2015 is off to a difficult start (it's only gonna get harder, but i can handle it!).  but i got a serious mojo boost a few weeks ago and i'm happy to be creating again.  today, i'm sharing my first "therapy" layout, honouring my awesome Dad...  CLICK HERE to see it up close and what goodies i used, and then buy them.  :)  code ORANGE always gets you 20% off your whole Paper Issues order!

here we go:

some FUN items on this page, including the gold doily and triangle sequins from Some Odd Girl's Odds & Ends section - the rest can ALLLLLLL be found in the Paper Issues store.

i miss this man every single day, and i have trouble keeping my focus as he creeps into my thoughts, but i LOVED making this page, and i love looking at it.  it's exactly what he and i have always been about.

GO HERE for my Paper Issues introduction and see my "issues" and check out the Current Issue, sponsored by A Flair for Buttons - not only can you win a great prize package from them, but there's a free cut file you can download...  the Paper Issues girls are a talented bunch!  this cut file was designed by the lovely Kathy Skou!

you've got a really nice pear...

i can't take credit for that, but it totes made me lullz so i had to use it to get your attention.  ;)

i've got a card today that is all cute and kawaii and part of our Valentine's inspiration week at the Some Odd Girl blog.  that's right, i made something.  AGAIN.

this one's by special request for a most awesome co-worker, and i hope she likes it!  i used a retired Some Odd Girl digi called Anjou - you can grab the clear stamp version in our Fruit Salad set and make even MORE cutery, because there are more fruits and punny sentiments (right up my alley!).  voila!

because nothing says "I love the SH!T out of you" like happy, smiling fruit!  right?  i also used the awesome Gold Foil Doilies from the Odds & Ends section of the Some Odd Girl shop, because they're seriously HOT.  and because GOLD FOIL.

annnnnnd, it's Valentine's inspo ALL WEEK, so you really should CLICK HERE to see what we're on about.  the Odd Girls are ON FIRE!

i also used the sweet card sketch from the Paper Issues Sketchy Saturday...

rotated it clockwise ninety degrees and busted out my February Swag Bag (it sold out, because they always do, but you REEEEEALLY should just get the 6-month subscription so you don't miss out - click HERE, and don't forget to use my code ORANGE for 20% off your whole purchase!)  for more inspiration from the Paper Issues Creative Team, you should check this out.  they rocked it all, as they do, and if they can inspire this girl to step out of her crafty funk, they'll inspire you, too.

and that's it for today.  i have an exam to study for on Thursday, so i may be scarce around these parts, but i'm feeling the mojo starting to return and i am SO relieved and grateful to those who gave me the push i needed.  now to sort through the rest of the chaos...  annnnnnd FORWARD, MARCH!

a smidge of inspiration

got this HUGE and totally generous and sweet package of goodies from the lovely Aimee Maddern a few weeks back, just because, and i have been picking out bits and pieces here and there.  i sat on this page for literally the last 10 days and just couldn't bring it together, and i'm sure it was just the lack of mojo, but it was really starting to get on my nerves.  i am FULL of creativity, dadgummit, and it was high time i kicked this slump in the rump.

today, i saw the sketch at Paper Issues for their Sketchy Saturday feature, and that sealed the deal.  WOOT!  mojo spotted!  i had the elements, everything was ready, but the placement just needed a push.  tweaked it, adhered away, and i am FINALLY happy with this flippin' page.

the majority of the elements are from Pretty Little Studio - all of the papers, the folder tabs, the number stickers and the year die-cuts (i just altered them with ink and mist to make them work for my page)...  the star flair is from Toni From Designs, the "hello" die is from Lawn Fawn (the "love" die is a new fave of mine, but they keep selling out!), some orange Thickers, and i believe the arrows are from Studio Calico.

have i mentioned how much i love my Dymo label makers?  seriously.  coloured tapes.  different fonts.  subtle.  old school perfection.

one more:

and here's the awesome Paper Issues sketch that helped me bring it all together, once and for all:

WHEW.  i am so relieved - i was really beginning to wonder if it might be time to start packing up the crafties and throwing in the towel altogether.  but nope.  now i want to use the card sketch to make a commissioned card for a co-worker.  yep, i'm feeling INSPIRED.  and it's about freaking time.

how you doin'?

well folks, i'm just going to put it out there right now because life has been ROUGH lately.  losing my Dad has been harder on me than anything i could have imagined, and i know it's going to take some time to feel some sense of normalcy again, but i have to try.

i'm heading back up to my studio to MAKE SOMETHING.  i keep going up there and sitting against the wall or lying on the floor staring into space.  hours go by and suddenly i realize it's time for bed.  tonight, i'm going to make something, even if it's just a tag or getting elements together for a card, i need to do something that's Leah - something the old me had in her.

tomorrow, i'm heading to the gym (putting it up here, on the screen, means i'm committing to it, right?), for the first time since October when i injured my back.  i was incapable of walking upright, sitting for 5 minutes at a time or finding a state of restfulness to allow me to sleep, and i was seeing a chiropractor 2 or 3 times a week, plus wearing a stimulator for a big chunk of my workday.  the MRI showed 3 herniated disks and i was told it could be 6 months or more until it healed to a comfortable point.  when i got the call that Sunday morning about Dad, my back just...  stopped hurting.  or maybe i just stopped feeling that kind of pain.  i'm not sure what happened or when, exactly, because after the first hour, i sprang into action to get myself up to Canada to be with him.  i haven't felt even a twinge of back pain since.

while it's tough to find the inspiration to create something, despite all of the lovely things i have in my studio and the amazing projects i've seen posted by my friends, i think it will be easy to burn 600 calories on the treadmill and probably not even realize i'm doing it.  i have new kicks for the gym, a ton of Fabletics gear i haven't had the chance to use, and a good 25 pounds that needs to go.

here's to fighting through it.  'cuz that's all i can try to do, and i don't know if it's going to work, because this isn't the only hard thing in my life right now.  and to all of you who have endured this kind of devastating loss, you have my condolences and hugs, because grief is SO HARD.

some odd favourite things popping the cork and hello again

okay, hello there chickens.  haven't been around in a bit as i've been extremely busy with the new job and then with losing my father on Christmas Day and scrambling around ever since.  i'm trying to settle back in but there is SO MUCH TO DO and i feel very overwhelmed.

that's why it was important for me to decompress a bit last night and spend some time in my craft studio.  LONG overdue.

i coloured.

i combined elements.

i combined challenges.

i played with some new goodies.

i felt a little better by the time i went to bed, so i'm glad i took some time for ME.  haven't had much of it lately.  and thank you to everyone who's been so supportive while i'm dealing with things.  i appreciate it more than i can possibly express on a computer screen.

here's one of two cards i made last night...  it features the critter from Some Odd Girl's Acorn Fairy clear stamp set, the heart and sentiment from the Nutsy Kaylee set (she's on clearance!) with Some Odd Girl's Sunshine Sorbet paper, some lovely adhesive cork, background papers from Pretty Little Studio.  and the wood sequins are from Chic Tags, coloured up with Wink of Stella from the Paper Issues shop.

close up of critter love, coloured up with my Prismacolor pencils
(and maybe you can see a bit of the shimmer on the sequins):

annnnnnd i am throwing down for the new sketch challenge (211) at My Favorite Things - i followed it pretty closely:

and i'm also linking up at the current Linky Party at Paper Issues - the theme is "Popping the Cork" (sponsored by the awesome Elle's Studio) and it inspired me to FINALLY cut into one of my adhesive cork sheets.  i think i bought the cork pad about a year and a half ago, and that's just silly.

and that will do it.  it felt GOOD to get my craft on.  what have you folks been up to?
